Gram-Positive Cocci

STAPHYLOCOCCAL INFECTIONS

Pathogenic staphylococci are ubiquitous; they are carried in the anterior nares of about 30% of healthy adults and on the skin of about 20%.
Hospital patients and personnel have slightly higher rates. Antibiotic-resistant strains are common in hospitals and in the community.
